“To Have and To Hold”
Chapter 1
Dancing in the Streets
I’ve known Jay Hemingway ever since I came to L.A. for a vacation back about three years ago. I had gone there with two of my girlfriends, Katie and Jessie…One of which actually was my girlfriend.
Long story short, I’m bisexual, and I never had the urge to cheat on my best friend/ girlfriend, Jessie, until Jay came into my life. Truth was, I was content with what I had at the time, but I just needed an escape. But boy, do I remember that week in good ol’ sunny California…
It was mid-August, and the bright sun glared down on me, Katie, and Jessie. Its beautiful rays didn’t like Katie and I much, as it was our second day there, and we already had tomato red sunburn contrasting with our pale, soft skin. Jessie, however, only became a more beautiful shade of deep, rich tan. We decided to get out of the way of the powerful rays, so we set up our boom box and my iPod in a wide-open alleyway. We cranked up the volume when a string of good dancing and singing songs came on.
They started off with “Summer of ‘69” by Bryan Adams. Katie took it away with the hairbrush she always kept in her purse “for emergencies.” Then, Joss Stone/ Jessie rocked the alleyway with “You Had Me.” She belted the lyrics, and even though she’d been smoking a bit, it still came out pretty good.
By now, we had developed quite the little crowd. My two favorite people at the time took on the Beauty and the Beast duet together, and I laughed my head off as they ballroom- danced together in front of the pack of on lookers.
“Alright, Bella, let’s see you try,” Katie said as Jessie snickered. Just then, “Come on Over” by Chirstina Aguilera rang my name loud and clear, and everyone seemed to know it. As I began to sing, I figured, hey, might as well have some fun with this tough crowd, so I singled out a tall, handsome blonde right in front. I pulled him out onto the “stage” and started to dance and sing to him.
The audience must’ve liked what I was doing, because they packed in closer to the four of us. The guy spun me around and we started to grind playfully.
It’s paradise/ When you and I/ Get close, Get tight…
I felt him start to get hard even though we were barely touching. Being me, I felt that I was doing something right, so I spun around after a little while longer to face him and really turn on my charm. Hairbrush in hand, I continued to sing to this guy that I met literally two minutes ago. Doing little things here and there to make sure I kept his attention, I looked deep into his eyes, and it scared me a little to see his heart right in front of me.
Now, baby don’t be shy, you better cross the line, I wanna love you right cuz all I want is you!!
With that, the song ended and I threw the brush and embraced him warmly, expecting some form of response from his probably aching body. He obliged, firmly wrapping him arms around my waist and bear- hugging me so tight, that I was actually being lifted off the ground. Once placed back on my feet, he let go, and shoved his hand out, waiting for mine. I gave it to him, and he shook it firmly, saying;
“Hey there, love. The name’s Jay in case you were wondering. And yours is?” I stopped gawking at his slight British accent once I realized two things- a) he asked me a question and- b) Jessie was bound to be pissed at me by now.
“Isabella, but everyone calls me Bella.” I blurted it out as fast as I could, knowing that the longer I stared into the deep emotional ocean humans called eyes, the deeper I would be sucked under his spell.
Sure enough, Jessie chimed in with her usual “ehh-hmm.”
“Oh…shit…this is my best friend Katie and my-” I didn’t have time to finish because Jessie interrupted me.
“-Her girlfriend, Jessie,” she commented almost comically as every syllable dripped with jealousy.
This seemed to catch Jay off guard as his eyes widened, and he gawked at me. “But…wait…how’d you…why…?”
I answered his question simply, “I’m bi. And Jessie and I,” I glared at her as I said these next words, as we all knew them to be true… “Have agreed to see other people while we’re here.”
Jay seemed to relax mentally and physically. I knew that it would work…I thought, very tempted to kiss his plump lips. Then, before I could do anything, Katie pulled me and Jessie out to face the crowd as “Me and My Gang” by Rascal Flatts came on. We sang and danced to “our song,” and after a minute, I guess I was too much for Jay, as he put to hands on my waist and slowly dragged me backwards, pulling my cute ass right up against his already throbbing member. Honestly, it turned me on, a lot, and even though Jess was there, I was ready to turn around and pounce on this sexy British God behind me. So what did I actually do? I invisibly ground harder up against his pounding thingy. I began to realize that I was having as much of an effect on him as he was on me. Another song came right on, but we stopped dancing, and I put our mini boom box and my IPod into our backpack. I heard a few “aww”s and “oh man!”s emit from the crowd as they began to dissipate.
“So, ladies…”Jay began, “How would you all like to go out and she all that L.A. has to offer?” We happily agreed. When Jay told us he could introduce us to his brother, an actor, Katie instantly gasped, “There’s MORE OF YOU?” Jay just giggled and turned to me.
“Would you like to go now?” I looked at my watch and it read 3:00. I figured ‘me and my gang’ could use this time to primp and shower, so as to attract guys (and girls) and not repel them.
“Why don’t you meet us at our hotel?” Jay eagerly agreed, and I told him what room number and what hotel. He said he’d be there at 5:00 sharp, and not to eat anything because he would buy us all dinner. Naturally, at the offer of free food, Katie and Jessie became overjoyed, and I hear one of them squeal. Jay laughed and said good bye. I knew I was going to remember tonight for a while, if not the rest of my life. The three of us raced back to the hotel, and took turns showering. Katie went first, and I was second. I heard someone come into the bathroom and plop themselves on the counter.
“Hey, Bells?” I heard Jess say.
“Yeah babe?”
“Do you hate me for being jealous?” I paused and wondered if this had been built up for a while, or if Jay had sparked it.
“No, babe, I don’t hate you…” I popped my head out from behind the curtain. “…We talked about this. I think it’s best if we take a break at least while we’re here…ok?” She seemed to somewhat disagree, because when I pulled my head back inside the curtain, she tore it back open, placed her hands on the side of my face and kissed me deeply. I didn’t kiss her back, because I knew that’s what she wanted me to prove…if I was still in love with her. The answer was I didn’t know, so I pulled myself back behind the curtain and finished up my shower quickly. When I got out, she wasn’t there.
